Solving the Problem of Sitting

  • Barefoot Living Arts 85 Mill Plain Road Fairfield, CT, 06824 United States (map)

Ever had that moment when, without warning, you sneeze or bend down to pick up a pencil and your back goes into spasm? How about attempting to sit in meditation, but your hips start to cramp after 5 minutes?

The thought may be that it was a sudden acute occurrence or that you are ‘just getting old’, but in truth, it is caused by the chronic, repetitive strain of sitting.

Sitting in chairs for long periods of time creates constant tension and compression on the low back, shortness in hip flexors and pain in the upper back, resulting in fascial dehydration and destabilization of the stabilizing muscles of the spine and core.

The attempts to rectify the problem with chair sitting with standing desks or extra fitness classes may show marginal improvement, yet neither addresses the chronic dehydration within the NeuroFascial System.

In this workshop, you will learn a few simple moves that can be done on your own with a soft roller for the body and just one small ball for the feet. The result is a more fluid body that can tolerate the repetitive strain of sitting in a chair… or better yet, encourage you to sit on the floor instead!
